Armenian cemetery in Turkey’s Malatya repaired

The authorities in Turkey’s Malatya province have undertaken the reconstruction of a destroyed Armenian cemetery.

According to the Turkish-language website Malatya Guncel, a sentry post and a chapel for the last prayer have been renovated.

The chapel, destroyed on February 2, is now said to be complete.

The building’s leveling by the municipal authorities had evoked a wide response by the local Armenian community and the civil society. The local authorities argued that the district’s Turkish population complained against the construction of an Armenian church.
