Armenian Apostolic Church observes memorial day today

The day following the birth of Jesus Christ marks a memorial day in the Armenian Apostolic Church’s Calendar.

All the churches in Armenia serve a liturgy at 10:30 am; people then visit the graves of deceased relatives to pray for the salvation of their souls.

The Christ’s birth and the April 7 Annunciation Day are the only church holidays celebrated on a fixed date. All the other feasts are marked on a Sunday, with the following Monday being declared a Decoration Day, the Holy See of St. Echmiadzin says in a statement on its official website.

Under a 2008 Government decision, the Mondays following church feasts are no longer working days.
