Ancient Armenian monastery falls apart while Catholicos builds new residence – statement (video)

The Armenian youth group No Silence has voiced alarm over the forlorn situation of a 13th century monastery against the backdrop of a new Catholicasate being built in Yerevan.

The activists are concerned that the Shakhnmurat monastery (Tavush) is falling apart while the new building’s construction continues in the capital city.

In a statement, they have referred to Catholicos Garegin II epoch-forming phrase saying, “I have nothing to do with the monasteries on those mountains”.

The group says they are thus launching a news series of protests, called False Values, to bring the public attention to what they call the moral degradation of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the priorities pursued by its leaders.
