Ethnic Armenian film director interested in shooting film about Karabakh

Russian film director, playwright, producer, and director of Mosfilm studio Karen Shahnazarov will probably shoot a film about Nagorno Karabakh.

Speaking to reporters in Yerevan, he said he has no plans yet to shoot films about the Armenian Genocide and Karabakh but is very much interested in these topics. “It is a very complicated and responsible topic. I cannot say I have concrete ideas but I am interested in Karabakh history and I have tried to study it as well as the history of Shahnazarovs. Maybe I will shoot such film, if I have enough strength,” he said.

The film director said from time to time he is having such ideas but cannot say they are certain or not.

“We were speaking today with Armenia’s president that it would have been interesting to prepare such film as Karabakh had a positive role in the relations between Russia and Armenia, in the life of the Armenian and Russian peoples,” Shahnazarov said.

Armenia’s president handed a Medal of Honor to the film director for his contribution to the development of the Armenian-Russian cultural relations.
