The Yerevan City Hall has extended the deadline of the tourism brand contest until March 15.

At a news conference on Wednesday, the head of the municipality’s Culture and Tourism Department, Maria Baraghamyan, asked marketing companies to be more active, adding that the announced bid is also open to individual participants.

“By extending [the final date], we enable all those who periodically criticize the City Hall for a poster design etc. to submit and propose their options,” she said.

Noting that the tourism brand is not to be confused with the Yerevan coat of arms or flag, Baraghamyan said it has to be a symbol accompanying tourists everywhere in Armenia’s capital.

“Upon summing up the contest, we have to decide the city’s icon, symbol etc. Our city has no icon today, as does Paris with its Eiffel Tower or Rome with it Pizza Tower etc. So we are working in that direction. We do not have the answer to this; that’s why a contest was declared,” she said, expressing hope that the final result will help find an answer to a number of questions.
