German cartoonist foresaw pope’s resignation

A German page-a-day calendar is said to have predicted the pope's resignation the day before it happened.


In a caricature published on February 19, Karicartoon 2013 showed Benedict exclaiming “Holy straw sack! I’m gonna resign tomorrow!” (Heiliger Strohsack! Morgen kündige ich!) as he wins in a lottery, The Voice of Russia reported..


The author of the prophetic cartoon, Katharina Greve, told Bild the next day that she drew it back in 2011 and was taken aback by the news.


Ms. Greve told journalists she had been a cartoonist for some 30 years, but it was the first time her art came true.
