Dress rehearsal of Serzh Avetikyan’s opera Anush held

The general rehearsal of the new stage version of opera Anush was held Thursday in the Sundukyan State Academic Theatre of Yerevan.

This new version, which is a French-Armenian joint project, is considered the main cultural event of this spring. The author of the project is the French-Armenian actor and director, Serzh Avetikyan.

The performance will be premiered on Tuesday evening. An overcrowded hall at the dress rehearsal has already sparked heated debates. The creative group says that their version is based on composer Armen Tigranyan’s original work.

More performances are due tomorrow, as well as next Friday and Saturday. Avetikyan initially planned to stage the opera in Paris.

For improvising the staging and music, the authors have referred to the original notation, which is kept at the Yeghishe Charents Museum of Literature and Art.

The project producer is Irina Igitkhanyan. The actors playing the key characters’ are Sofya Sayadyan, Liparid Avetisyan and Gurgen
Baveyan. Fifteen musicians and the state chamber choir Hover act on the stage.
