More Armenian students can study in Germany today – minister

Armenian students have better chances to study at the universities of Germany today than they did five years ago, the acting minister of education and science said Satuday at an event dedicated to German language teaching.

At the official opening of the ceremony, marking the first ever German language teachers’ day in Armenia, Arman Ashotyan said the educational programs aim to make the cultural and language dialogue more active,

“Today’s ceremony is from the series of regular [events] directed at German culture and language teaching, and it is noteworthy we had the opportunity to expand educational programs over the past years,” he said.

An opening speech was later delivered by Christoph Rennig, an employee of the German Embassy, who was pleased to speak of the Armenians’ increasing interest in the language. “As an ethnic German, I am happy that there is an active interest here in the German language. It is the first time we are holding this day in Armenia, and that allows us to exchange experience and knowledge,” he said, noting that German is the most widely used language across the European Union today.
