NOFI 3rd International Festival of Non-commercial Films, Yerevan

The annual film contest of International Festival of Non-commercial films “NOFI” is an open event, taking place from May 28 to June 2, 2013 in Yerevan, Armenia. Independent filmmakers, representatives from non-commercial film organizations and international film festivals from Europe, Asia and America have been invited.
 
Director of the festival Artashes Hovhannisyan told journalists on Monday that 45 films from 24 countries of Europe, Americas and Asia will be demonstrated.

“We are glad about Asian films, which are not often shown in Armenia. Seventeen Armenian films are taking part in the festival. Films that will get the highest number of points will take part in the UNICA non-commercial film festivals, in Tyrol, Austria. Armenia will present six or seven films,” Hovhannisyan said. Armenia participated in the festival and brought two silver medals and two bonze ones.

Back in 1988, an Armenian film won a gold medal.

“The festival jury has watched the films. They are of a much higher quality as compared with the films during the previous festivals,” Hovhannisyan said.

This year’s festival is a three-phased festival – Yerevan, Moscow and Los Angeles.

The films will be demonstrated with the sponsorship of the Union of Cinematographers and Armenia’s Ministry of Culture.

The shows will take place at the Cinema House and Henrik Malyan theater, with the awards ceremony to take place at the Moscow cinema. The winners will receive awards from the ambassadors of the countries they represent.

A Hungarian fill is taking part in the festival. The director is among the individuals that apologized in behalf of Hungary for the handover of Ramil Safarov. He wished to come to Armenia, but the organizers could not find money to host him.
