Armenian writer Vrezh Israelyan found dead

А contemporary Armenian fiction writer and dramatist, Vrezh Israelyan, was found dead in his apartment on Friday morning, Tert.am has learned from the Police.

A public relations officer speaking to our correspondent did not confirm an earlier report that he had committed suicide.

A friend of Israelyan, who preferred to remain unnamed, said the writer was told about a week ago that he was in the final stage of a lung cancer.

Vrezh Israelyan was born on Aprl 2, 1949. A member of the Writers’ Union of Armenia, he was honored as a laureate for his book Tonapet.

From 1993 until 1999, Israelyan was the editor of the defense ministry’s official newspaper, Armenian Soldier.

His early stories were published in the magazine Garun. In 1978, Israelyan received the Communist Party’s Best Writer of the Year award.
