New Year Will Be Celebrated on June 14

It is already four years that a group of Armenian patriots celebrates the New Year on June 14 following the old calendar.

At a press conference today Grigor Brutyan, a chronologist and astrologist, said that this year the New Year will be celebrated at the base of Aragats, Armenia's four-peak, highest mountain.

"We must find leverages to preserve our identity. And one of those leverages is returning to our roots," said Brutyan.

Armenians have traditionally celebrated the New Year on June 14 before adopting Christianity.

Armenian poet Anahit Sargsyan, in turn, said Armenians should take steps to help their children to overcome the dependence on cell-phones and computers.

Speaking about the events to take place on June 14, she said: "On that very day games, dances, ritual events will be organized."

The ritual meal that day will be the traditional harisa - an Armenian dish made of grain and mutton or chicken.
