Five songs by Komitas to be distributed in DVDs

Sardarapat movement and composer Artur Shahnazaryan have undertaken the initiative of the launching a movement of distributing five of the simplest songs written by great Armenian composer Komitas.

Speaking at a press conference today, Lala Mneyan, a member of the Sardarapat movement, said that they are concerned about the current situation in Armenia ’s cultural life and that the undertaking is aimed at saving what she called the “national identity” of Armenians.

“In terms of culture we have a problem with national security, our national identity is at risk,” she said.

Arthur Shahnazaryan, who is also an expert in studying Komitas’ works, said that though there are many outstanding personalities among Armenians whose works deserve decent presentation, they chose Komitas for his outstanding investment in collecting and registering most of the Armenian folklore.

Further, he said that they are planning to use every method to distribute those songs by Komitas, including DVDs. They will also distribute the printed version of the texts of the songs.

“Anyone knowing these five songs will be protected against any anti-music disasters, against all the Turkish tones that are today penetrating into the souls of our children,” he explained.
