Armenian journalist receives award for best story

An Armenian journalist and photographer has been honored with the literary award Inqnagir (autograph) for writing the best story in 2010.

Anush Babajanyan received the award for her story titled "The History of Hayk". The award ceremony was held on April 27 at the office of Utopiana cultural organization.

The selection was made from among 30 candidates who submitted stories in the spring and summer of 2010.

The president of Inqnagir Literary Club, Vahan Ishkanyan, said the second prize was awarded to writer Sona Avetisyan for a story titled "Matter of Importance". Armen Ohanyan and Taisha Abelar won the third and fourth prizes, respectively.

"The prize does not imply that the story selected was the best in the literal sense of the word. The perception of literature is subjective, so each jury member is guided by his or her own taste, respecting the opinion of other colleagues and all other people who disagree with him/her," Ishkanyan said.

The jury was composed of Yerevan State University professor Siranush Dvoyan, Literary Club President Vahan Ishkhanyan and architect Misak Khostikyan.

The literary award "Inqnagir" was launched in 2009. The ceremony was the fourth in a row. The prize sum is 40,000 drams (about $110).
