Charles Aznavour tribute evening held in New York

American-Armenian community held in New York a tribute evening dedicated to the 87th anniversary of French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour on May 20.

According to a press release by Armenia’s Foreign Ministry, the event was organized by the Fund for Armenian Relief and Archbishop Khazhak Parsamyan, the leader of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in US.

The event was attended by Armenia’s Foreign Minsiter Edward Nalbandyan, who delievered a speech and conveyed Armenian president’s greetings and best wishes to the octogenarian veteran singer.

Nalbandyan highly appreciated Aznavur as a human being, as an artist and a great patriot, adding he is happy to have had a chance to jointly with Aznavur implement many programs related to Armenia while serving as Armenia’s Ambassador to France.

Nalbandyan also informed the audience that the Charles Aznavur – an Armenian national hero and currently serving as Armenia’s Ambassador in Switzerland – will have a concert in Paris’ Olympia concert hall on September 28 under the auspices of Armenia’s and France’s presidents.

“May be not all Armenians know who Armenia’s foreign minister is, but I am sure there is no single Armenian on Earth who would not know Charles Aznavur,” Nalbandyan said.

Nalbandyan further said that everyone wishes that Aznavur’s life, which he compared to a 'film, to last for eternity.

Contributing to the organization of the evening was also New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, singers Laiza Minneli, Placido Domingo, Celine Dion and Sir Elton John.

Around 600 people attended the meeting.
