Yerevan to host 'Arabian Nights'

"Arabian Nights", a film series featuring the Arab world, will be organized in Yerevan beginning Monday.

The initiative, launched by the joint efforts of KassArt Production and the French Embassy in Yerevan is aimed at telling Armenians about Arab countries (Egypt, Palestine, Iraq).

The program also includes popular movies nominated for an Oscar and Cannes film festival, the author and director of the project, Vrezh Kasuni, told Tert.am.

The first movie – directed by Dominique Dubosc (France) - is to be screened on May 31 at 5:00 pm.

The first part of the film screenings will start in the afternoon at the Center for Contemporary and Innovative Arts.

There is also an evening program which will start at 8:00 pm at the Yerevan Puppet Theatre.

The program, according to the author, is aimed at reviving the Armenian-Arab relations and promoting collaboration between Armenian and Arab directors.

"Interest in the Arab world is limited only to belly dance and hookah, and the Arab culture is associated with terrorism or war," he said.

The "Arabian Nights" film program was first organized in Armenia in 2008 in the frameworks of the Golden Apricot International Film Festival.
