Abbas Kiarostami: I am pleased to visit Armenia

"I am going to stay in Armenia as long as I can," Abbas Kiarostami, an internationally acclaimed Iranian film director and screenwriter, told a press conference in Yerevan, on the occasion of the Golden Apricot international cinema festival. "I am pleased to come to Armenia on any occasion. It would be better if a film proved to be an occasion. But I have no project now," the producer said.

Armenian cinemagoers are most attentive and excellent viewers, Abbas Kiarostami said.

"On the other hand, I have the impression that the Yerevan citizens are not particularly fond of cinema. They go to concerts, but they do not go to the cinema. One of the aims of festivals is to encourage people to more frequently go to the cinema," the Iranian film producer said.

Abbas Kiarostami is in Yerevan on the occasion of the 8th international cinema festival Golden Apricot.
