Krasnodar to host exhibition of Armenian painter' works

The arts museum in Krasnodar, Russia, will host an exhibition of paintings by the well-known Krasnodar-based painter Georgy Petrosyan.

His works form parts of collections a museums in Krasnodar and Sochi, as well as of private collections in Yerevan, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Jerusalem and Marseille.

The Yerkramas newspaper, published by the Armenian community in Russia, reports that the painter would mark his 80th birthday anniversary on August 8. The painters' works forming part of museum stocks, as well as of his sister Amaliya Petrosyan's personal collection, will be displayed at the exhibition.

In 1958, Georgy Petrosyan graduated from an art school in Krasnodar. After serving in the army, he was admitted to Moscow State Institute of Arts after Vasily Surikov.

When a student, G. Petrosyan arrived in Armenia and met with Martiros Saryan, who approved of the young painter's desire to serve the arts.

Inspired by Armenia's nature, history and culture, Petrosyan wrote: "in my Homeland there are more stones than people. That is why my nationals created khachkars, temples, churches and palaces – and even homes were made of stone. They would eat and sleep on stones. They would defend themselves with stones, but hardships did not turn them into stones…"
