Armenian Church celebrates Assumption of Mary

The Armenian Apostolic Church is celebrating the Assumption Day of the Holy Virgin Mariam.

This is one of the oldest celebrations dedicated to Saint Mary.

On this occasion a liturgy will be served in all Armenian churches.

According to the press service of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin this day is a special one in the sense that it is marked also by the blessing of the grapes that get mature in mid August.

The blessing of the grapes takes place after the liturgy and only then the believers are allowed to eat grapes.

The grapes that have been blessed are used for making wine which people keep till the next blessing of grapes as a guarantee of abundant harvest for the next year.
