Jivan Gasparyan Junior wins UNESCO special award

Armenia duduk player Jivan Gasparyan Junior has won a special award by the UNESCO at a music contest in Uzbekistan.

“In the middle of my performance, the jury said ‘it’s enough’ as it was clear for them the quality of my music,” Jivan Gasparyan, the grandchild of the famous namesake duduk player, told Tert.am.

The Voice of the East took place on August 30 with more than 300 participants from 50 countries.

“There was neither age nor style restriction, though mainly elders were taking part in it,” said he.

“After my performance, when it was not clear who won which place, performers from various countries would come to me and congratulate,” he added.

Asked about his grandfather’s investment in his career he said: “”My grandfather’s investment is that he taught me to play correctly; he put me on the right track, and would not receive any price, had I played badly,” said he.
