Armenian journalists receive awards in annual contest

An annual reporting contest for advocating equal opportunities and called “Sunflower” has awarded journalistic pieces covering problems of people with limited abilities are facing.

A total of 60 pieces had been submitted by 44 journalists from capital Yerevan and provinces – 40 printed, five radio and 15 TV reportages.

The first prize in “best TV reportage” nomination went to Liana Minasyan from Shoghakat TV Channel.

The second and the third prizes went to Hasmik Smbatyan from RFE/RL Armenian service and Armine Oleyan from AR TV Channel correspondingly.

The “best printed article” saw only two prizes – the second and the third one – which went to Arpy Maghakyan from Haynews.am and Parandzem Hovhannisyan from Medialab news website.

Encouraging and special prized were also handed in.

The submissions were expected to be based on a deep and comprehensive study of disability problems.

The reports were expected to unveil the problems of disabled people and suggest examples of how to overcome them.

The pieces were also judged based on how the reporters observed ethics rules while recording and filming disable people.
