Historical Armenian cross valued at $70,000 on eBay

A sacred cross that once belonged to the St. Karapet Monastery of Mush has been valued at 70.000 US Dollars on eBay.

The sellers have described the item as a rare sample of Armenian cross.

The sacred piece is offered for 2 380 000 Russian Rubles ($ 3,163,279.91) on the Russian bidding website Bay.ru. The cross, which is 38 cm long and weighs 488 grams, dates from 1761-1771.

A manuscript by Grigor Narekatsi, a 10th century Armenian poet and theologian, was recently auctioned online for a starting price of $30,000. Director of the Matenadaran (repository of ancient Manuscripts) Hrach Tamrazyan said in later comments to Tert.am that they were trying to verify the report, as well as the identity of the person who had placed the bid.
