Cafesjian art center not to face closure following founder’s death

The Yerevan-based art center founded by Gerard L. Cafesjian, the prominent US-Armenian benefactor who was reported dead earlier on Tuesday, will continue functioning as before, Tert.am has learned from a source.

“The center continues its activities, so it won’t be suspended,” a representative at the Cafesjian Center for the Arts told our correspondent.

Center said earlier said that the benefactor is going to be buried in his hometown, Minneapolis (US State of Minnesota).

In 1996, the Cafesjian Family Foundation made an investment of over $50 million to contribute to the preservation of the cultural heritage of Armenia.

The Museum’s central building was designed by the US architect David Hotson (New York). The Cafesjian’s art collection, which makes up the nucleus of the center’s basic collection, comprises pieces by the well known artists Stanislav Libensky and Jaroslava Brychtová
