Komitas festival participants pay respect to great musician

The participants of the pan-Armenian festival Komitas Vardapet visited on Thursday the Yerevan pantheon named after the great musician, reports the Ministry of Diaspora’s press service.

The delegation included members of the festival’s artistic council (the merited artist Tigran Mansuryan, the conductor and the art director of the Armenian State Choir, Hovhannes Chekijyan, the merited Armenian artist Sargis Najaryan), as well as choirs and soloists participating in the event, the festival’s director, Samvel Haroyan, and different art fans.

The guests laid flowers and burned incense on Komitas’s grave to commemorate the talented composer.

Priest Shahe Hayrapetyan of the St Sargis church later recited liturgy. Armenian choirs from Hamburg and Moscow performed songs by the Komitas.

Minister of Diaspora Hranush Hakobyan who led the delegation said the festival’s organization is very symbolic on the threshold of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Composers Tigran Manusryan and Hovhannes Chekijyan greeted the choirs and solo performers from foreign countries, thanking the Ministry for the patriotic initiative.
