Aznavour unveils desire to visit Turkey

The renowned French-Armenian singer and song-writer Charles Aznavour has expressed a desire to visit Turkey.

He unveiled his intention to the French publication Le Dauphiné Libéré, which interviewed him in honor of a decision to name the municipal congress of Montélimar after the great musician.

“I am for [Armenia’s] rapprochement with Turkey. Armenians do not agree with me on this point. But there are Armenian intellectuals who are in favor of the normalization of the Armenian-Turkish ties,” he said. “I want neither the Armenian Cause nor Turkey’s EU membership to be a topic of conversation. I only wish to visit the country where my mother was born.”

Aznavor said that he likes the Turkish people, adding that any negative statement of his is against the Turkish authorities, not the nation.

Asked about possible risks, the singer said it isn’t a big problem for a person of his age, especially when that person does not consider himself a coward.
