Armenian artist’s fresco to be restored

Armenia’s government has decided to allocate AMD 22.526m to Armenia’s Ministry of Culture for the restoration of the Hayastan fresco by the great Armenian painter Minas Avetisyan.
 
Armenia’s Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan reported that the funds will also be spent on the restoration of the Gyumri Palace of Culture for experts to get access to the fresco.

“This is the third fresco we are trying to restore and keep at the Gyumri palace of culture,” Ms Poghosyan said.

The Ministry of Culture has involved the private sector in the restoration process as well. Four frescos need restoring, one by Minas Avetisyan and three by Rafael Atoyan.

The US Embassy in Armenia has provided funds for the restoration of one of Rafael Atoyan’s frescos.
