Exhibition of Armenian life-termers’ works in Yerevan

A civil initiative dealing with life-termers’ problems organized a sale and exhibition of the life-termer Armen Mnjoyan’s paintings and the life-termer Mher Yenokyan’s book ‘In the parallel world.’
 
The motto of the exhibition is ‘How long is life imprisonment’.

The civil initiative member Zaruhi Mejlumyan told journalists that initiative members decided to exhibit life-termers’ works and thus draw public attention to the phenomenon.

“After studying the relevant laws we have realized we have much to do. Armenia’s criminal code and code of criminal procedure need amendments and we are making relevant proposals. Some of the 104 life-termers were sentenced when they were aged 18 to 21. In European countries young people aged 18-21 are not sentenced to life,” Ms Mejlumyan said.

Since Armenia gained independence, no life sentence has been reviewed and amnesties have not been applied to them.
