Armenia to host first ever fish festival

Ahead of the Easter holiday, Armenia will host its first ever fish festival to introduce different dishes made of fish products.

The event will be held in the town of Abovyan (Kotayk region) on April 19.

At a news conference on Friday, Tigran Ghazaryan, one of the organizers, said that they came up with the idea in an attempt to make fish dishes more popular in Armenia. He said they chose the Easter eve as the festival day, considering fish the symbol of Christianity.

“The other zone is the cultural zone, and we very closely collaborate with the Abovyan City Hall on that. In the economic zone too, villagers will have an opportunity to showcase their product. At the end, the contest round will follow,” Ghazryan said.

Hermine Adamyan, the head of the Abovyan City Hall’s Department of Education and Cultures said they accepted the idea with a big enthusiasm, considering it the beginning of a good tradition.

“The festival’s artistic part will be very enriched; there is also a separate artistic zone that will be a big exhibition site,” she added.

The organizers also promise to introduce an innovation - a solar device designed for preparing fish food.
