Turkey to publish bilingual collection of Sayat Nova songs

In a fresh attempt to leave Armenians contented following PM Recep Erdogan’s condolence address, Turkey is now going to publish a bilingual collection comprising the songs of Sayat Nova, an 18th century legendary Armenian bard.

The book, which will be available in the Turkish and Armenian languages, is expected to be ready for sale in June, the Sabah newspaper reported. The project will be funded by the Turkish Government.

“The 18th century Armenian bard created pieces in the Armenian, Georgian and Azerbaijani languages. With his kamancha (bowed string instrument used in oriental cultures up until the end of the 19th centuries) Sayat Nova, an author of 220 songs that have survived to our days, is perceived as a single entity,” writes the Turkish publication.
