Wine, barbecue and mullberry … Armenian festivals to be part of CIS tourism events

Six Armenian festivals featuring national traditions and the ethnic color have been included in the list of the CIS tourism attraction events.

The annual celebrations, dedicated to the Armenian arts and crafts, the treasures of Odzun (historical village in Armena’s north) and even the mulberry of Syunik, will be marked with a special splendor this year.

Speaking to the state news agency Armenpress, Mekhak Apresyan, Head of the Economy Ministry’s Tourism Department, said such a decision was made after discussion with the CIS Tourism Council. “We expect the festivals to attract more people this year. At the same time, tourists from the CIS countries will get familiarized with the Armenian culture and traditions. This is a good opportunity to introduce the diversity, as well as the tourism attractiveness of Armenia. The other CIS countries will cover festivals too, and they may become more large-scale events in the coming years,” he noted.

The six events include The Mulberry Festival of Goris (Syunik region), The Arts and Crafts of Gyumri, The Barbecue Festival of Akhtala (Lori region), The Wine Festival of Areni (Vayots Dzor), The Carpet Festival of Dilijan (Tavush region) and The Treasures of Odzun.
