Istanbul-Armenian photographer named honorary doctor

The Istanbul-based Bogazici University has honored a Turkish-Armenian photographer with the title of an honorary doctor, Armenpress reports, citing CNNTurk.

Ara Guler, best known in Turkey as the “eye of Istanbul”, was given his honorary cloak and  certificate by the University’s president, Gulay Barbarosoglu.

The artist, who has been famed as an internationally acclaimed photographer since the 1970’s, won the award for his photos featuring a high artistic talent and his efforts towards making Turkey’s history and present-day life known to the world.

The award ceremony was also attended by Orhan Pamuk, a Turkish academic and novelist, and a laureate of Nobel Prize.
