World-famous soprano Montserrat Caballe back to Nagorno-Karabakh

World-famous operatic singer Montserrat Caballe arrived in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) on Sunday, the second time since her last visit to the country in 2013.
 

According to a press release by the country’s Foreign Ministry, the renowned Spanish soprano will conduct master-classes for young opera singers at a musical college in capital Stepanakert.

She is also scheduled to meet with President Bako Sahakyan and the primate of the Armenian Apostolic Churches Artsakh diocese, Archbishop Pargev Martirosyan.

Coballe is in the second Armenian republic with her family members, as well as a Spanish tenor and an accompanist.

Her visit was organized by the Nagorno-Karabakh Ministry of Culture and Youth Affairs in collaboration with the company Starmus.

The main sponsor of the concert is “Converse Bank”; the co-sponsor is Athenas Pallas.

Montserrat Caballe first visited Artsakh in June 2013. On December 12 the same year, her album “Armenia and Artsakh: The Island of Christianity” was presented in Paris.

“… I am returning to Artsakh; this time for the purpose of singing. In your country which is little but strong, I will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the ceasefire with you. I hope to see you in Stepanakert, meet my old friends and sing for them for the peace and prosperity of Artsakh”, reads the singer’s leader to President Bako Sahakyan.

One of the 20th century’s most brilliant sopranos, Montserrat Caballe was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1933. In 1974, she was named Honorary Ambassador of the UN; 17 years later she was given the title of Ambassador of Peace. In 1994. Coballer was designated as UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador.
