Theatrical Lori festival starts in Armenia’s Alaverdi

The 22^nd festival Theatrical Lori has started in Alaverdi, Lori region, Armenia.

This year’s festival is dedicated to the 85th birthday anniversary of the renowned Armenian actor, People’s Artist of Armenia and of the USSR Sos Sargsyan.

Director of the festival Hrachya Papinyan told Tert.am that 23 companies from Armenia and from other countries are participating in the festival, which will give 33 performances throughout the Lori region.

“As far back as the Soviet times, used to arrive in Armenia to take part in the festival. Since 2006, more professional actors have taken part in the festival, and only professional companies are taking part now. The main aim of the festival is to breathe new life into Alaverdi’s theater,” he said.

Companies from Romania, Lithuania, Belarus, Iran and Russia are taking part in the festival.

The festival’s only award, the Sos Sargsyan Grand Prix has been presented to the Lori governor for supporting the event.

The Theatrical Lori festival will last until October 26, when the closing ceremony will be marked by the unveiling of Sos Sargsyan’s monument in the street named after him in Stepanavan.
