Armenia is committed to the peaceful use of nuclear energy - Permanent Mission of Armenia to the UN

During the thematic debate on nuclear weapons held by the First Committee of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Armenian delegation reaffirmed Armenia’s support for the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT). This was reported by the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the United Nations.

“The importance of bringing the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty into force as soon as possible was emphasized. The delegation also noted that Armenia is committed to the peaceful use of nuclear energy,” the statement said.

It was also emphasized that Armenia is committed to close cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), including with regard to extending the operational lifetime of Armenia’s nuclear power plant and ensuring a safe and responsible transition to a new nuclear power plant.
