‘The Cut’ to be premiered in Turkey - Fatih Akın

‘The Cut’, a film by Fatih Akın, a German film director, screenwriter and producer of Turkish descent, will be premiered in Turkey next week.

In an interview with the Milliyet daily, Mr Akın said that Armenians welcomed the film.

“This film has been created by a Turkish film director so not all Turks are bad,” think Armenians, according to him.

As to whether many people perceive the film as showing hostility to Turkey, Mr Akın said:

“In fact, the opposite happened. In working on the film, I faced some discrimination. I met different Armenians, and some of them were shocked to know I was a Turk. They asked me if I was a Christian, and I answered I was not one. They were cool towards me. Many of them ignored me because of my Turkish parents. But Armenians throughout the world liked my film. I extended my hand to them, and they took it.”
