Fatih Akin’s Genocide movie attracts Turks’ negative reaction

German-Turkish director Fatih Akin’s movie on the Armenian Genocide has not received a positive acceptance in Turkey.

CNN Turk reports that “The Cut”, which had been widely criticized before, remained on the big screen only for seven weeks, attracting 20,694 viewers.

First screened on in August on the sidelines of the Venice Film Festival, the movie was to have been presented in Turkey from October 11 to 17, but the screening was rescheduled until December 5.


“The Cut” went on screen in 24 Turkish cinemas, attracting 5.051 people in the first week. But the viewers’ number later decreased, together with the cinemas’.

A leading hero in the movie is Nazaret Manukyan, an Armenian man who, after years of separation from family by Ottoman soldiers, starts a search for his two daughters.

The film’s total budget is said to be 16 million Euros.
