Terrifying moment stage collapses from under a police choir, sending 80 singers tumbling from view in an instant
A shocking video has appeared online showing the moment a stage collapsed during rehearsals for a singing competition, sending a massive police choir crashing to the ground.
The terrifying accident, which reportedly left eight people injured after the five metre fall, happened at Bijie Grand Theatre on Saturday in China's Guizhou province, the Daily Mail reports.
About 20 seconds after 80 members of the choir began to sing, the lifting stage suddenly caved in, sending the singers hurtling to the ground like a pack of dominoes.
According to Mashable, there were no deaths from the incident however police from the Bi Jie City Guizhou choir and a number of stage workers were significantly injured.
The stage fall triggered a chaotic scene, with screams audible at the end of the video as audience members scrambled to reach the stage.
The video began with a piano playing softly on the corner of the stage.
The police choir stood perfectly with their arms firmly down by their sides, patiently awaiting their cue from the conductor.
As they began singing, three members of the choir sheepishly ran up to the stage to join their comrades.
Just moments later, as members of the audience recorded the whole thing on their phones, the stage suddenly collapsed to the ground, causing each member of the choir to fall straight down, as if they were in a lift.
A few startled and panicked screams erupted from the audience as the majority stood rooted to the ground in shock.
However when the reality of the situation became evident, madness descended on the theatre and the video cut out.
The cause of the stage failure is being investigated.
