Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian voiced his concerns over the universally observed cultural xenophobia as he delivered a speech at UNESCO’s 70th anniversary conference entitled “Cultural Policy and Policy for Culture”.

Nalbandian said he regrets that many nations’ cultural values and heritage is being ruthlessly uprooted in different parts of the world.

“The religious and ethnic hatred is equally targeted against cultural monuments. The intolerance to others’ cultural values must be resolutely condemned by the international community. Culture is a bridge between generations, which is why they [vandals] first of all attempt to destroy cultural monuments,” he said, considering culture’s role undeniable in human development.

The minister further attached importance to UNESCO’s slogan, "Unite for Culture", considering it a powerful message aimed to avert a cultural vandalism.

“The imperative of sustainable development is more than actual today. The role of culture is undeniable in the human development, which is centered on the human being and the society,” he added.
