The concert by Charles Aznavour, the legendary French-Armenian singer and song-writer, opened the 68 Alsace wine festival in north-east France.

The singer appeared on stage at 9:00 pm Paris time on Friday to sing for an audience of 5,000.

Aznavour, who frequently participates in the festival, shared his impressions from previous events at a recent news conference. “We speak of wine, but it seems to me that when I came here years ago, it was a beer festival, wasn’t it?” he said half-jokingly.

He said he was determined not to put down his pen to compose more songs while the festival is on. He admitted that writing music every morning is for him something like ritual he can’t live without.

The festival guests will be offered to taste a variety of wines until August 16.

Concerts for music lovers will take place almost every evening, to give them a chance to enjoy music of different genres.
