Armenian costumes in photographers’ eyes – exhibition-contest in Yerevan
The items on display also included innovative designs by young stylists – clothes mixed with elements of costumes.
Speaking to Tert.am, Sona Tonakanyan, an organizer of the event entitled, Armenian Costume: Ethno-Cultural Feature, said that the selection of the topic was made with a special purpose to make the Armenian costumes popular through photography.
“What interested us wsa how photographers perceive costumes and what can be done to present them to the public in a more interesting way. Very few people at all do costume design in Armenia. Those being displayed through photos were sown by Syrian-Armenian women under the auspices of the cultural center Teryan,” she said.
Tonakanyan, who is also in charge of the initiative Armenian Circle, said the nine photographers who participated in the event presented a total of 85 photos portraying different costumes. She said the winning participant, who will be named on Thursday, will be given a chance to organize an individual exhibition on the topic.
At the end of the event a group of young ladies showcased modern clothes mixed with elements of costumes. Their design was made by young undergraduates of the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts.
