Armenia, Iran re-affirm commitment to expand cooperation

Armenia’s Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan and First Vice President of Iran Eshaq Jahangiri held a meeting in Yerevan on Wednesday.

The meeting was followed by a news conference of Mr Abrahamyan and Mr Jahangiri.

Armenia’s premier stated that the sides re-affirmed their commitment to expand Armenian-Iranian cooperation, which is based on the two peoples’ friendship and developing in an atmosphere of mutual confidence.

“We have summed up the work carried out under the agreements reached during our visit to Iran a year ago and discussed a wide range of issues related to future programs,” Mr Abrahamyan said.

The sides expressed their satisfaction with the positive results of the negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program and expressed confidence that I will be of benefit to regional security and steady progress.

The sides also discussed issues of expending the bilateral trade and economic ties, energy programs, transport infrastructures, prospects for agricultural cooperation, as well as humanitarian issues.

“We thoroughly discussed the construction of a second part of the Armenia-Iran high-voltage line. Given the importance of the aforementioned programs, we noted that the construction has been launched and is to be completed in 2018,” Mr Abrahamyan said.

The sides also specified further work at the Meghri HPP construction project and implementation of the gas-supply network in the Armenian settlements bordering on Iran.
