Popular Armenian actress Varduhi Varderesyan passes away

Varduhi Varderesyan, a popular Armenian stage actress loved and appreciated by a wide audience both in Armenia and abroad, has died at age 87.

Speaking to Tert.am, sources from the Ministry of Culture said that a special government commission will be set up to arrange civil funeral rites and a burial for the great actress.

Born in Bucharest, Romania on March 19, 1928, Varduhi Varderesyan repatriated to Armenia in 1946, where she finished the studio of Leninakan Dramatical Theater (now Gyumri). She later worked in the same theater. From 1958 onwards, Varderesyan was a leading actress at the Sundukyan Drama Theatre of Yerevan. In 1988, she won the People's Artist of the USSR title. In 2002, Varderesyan was declared an honorary resident of Yerevan.
