Penderecki’s presence promising for Armenia’s youth orchestra
Prominent Polish conductor Krzysztof Penderecki has recently arrived in Yerevan to join celebrations dedicated to the State Youth Orchestra’s 10th anniversary.
On Monday, he joined the orchestra's artistic director, Sergey Smbatyan, for a press conference dedicated to the jubilee.
“Our entire orchestra is excited, as it is really difficult to sum up these ten years,” Smbatyan said.
He added the important thing for them is the feeling that they can achieve positive changes. “We have already made certain changes possible. With the new orchestra, new spirit and new victories, we have created a team which is trying to voice a new idea. So the kind of active work the orchestra is carrying out today is very important.”
Highly appreciating Penerecki’s presence in the orchestra, Smbatyan said he finds the joint work with him very promising for future work.
Congratulating the orchestra on the jubilee, the Polish conductor added that he feels a significant growth after several joint concerts.
“I am interested in young musicians. And we do a lot for young musicians. It is very important that this orchestra exists and develops,” he added.
The concert, dedicated to the anniversary, will be held at the Aram Khachatryan concert hall (National Philharmonic Orchestra). The program will include pieces by Alexander Harutyunyan, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Aram Khachatryan, Sergey Rachmaninoff, Pyotr Tchaykovsky, Rodion Schedrin, Astor Piazolla, Nicola Piovani.
The concert will be co-conducted by Smbatyan and Penerecki.
