Chess school construction program to be completed this year – Yerevan mayor

Yerevan Mayor and President of the Yerevan Chess Federation Taron Margaryan, accompanied by Vice-President of the Chess Federation of Armenia Smbat Lputyan, attended the closing ceremony of junior chess championship 2016 at the Tigran Petrosyan Chess Palace, the Public Relations Department, Yerevan Municipality,has reported.

Mr Margaryan congratulated the participants and said that two new chess schools will soon be opened in Yerevan’s Kanaker-Zeitun and Nor-Nork communities this year. The chess population program will be consistently implemented.

“As we promised, we are completing our chess school construction program in Yerevan this year, and all the 12 communities will have free chess schools. Now I can state with certainty that our policy has proved a success. As Yerevan Mayor and President of the Yerevan Chess Federation, I can assure you that we are determined to consistently implement chess development programs. I am sure this championship will reveal talented children that will defend the honor of Armenia and its capital,” Mr Margaryan said.

For his part, Mr Smbat Lputyan congratulated the participants in the chess championship and highlighted the Yerevan mayor’s policy and successful implementation of sports development programs in Yerevan.

Overall, 216 children participated in the championship. The winners will have a right to participate in the semifinals of the junior championship of Armenia.

Mr Margaryan awarded Cups and medals to the winners of the Yerevan 2016 chess championship. The umpires and directors of some of the chess schools were presented with diplomas.

On behalf of the participants in the chess championship, Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan was awarded a commemorative medal “Yerevan junior championship” for his contribution to chess popularization and chess and consistent championship organization policy.
