Geneva-based Armenian mezzo-soprano Varduhi Khachatryan (Victoria Hall) will represent on March 6 the concert series “Viva Callas”, which includes works from the repertoire of world-famous soprano Maria Callas.
This is another concert of VIVA concert series, which implements “Avetis” Armenian-Swiss Cultural Association situated in Genève, where the newly established “Avetis” festival orchestra will give a performance for the first time.
Varduhi Khachatryan is the founding director of the orchestra and association at the same time. The chief conductor and art director of the orchestra is world-famous violinist and today also a conductor Sergey Ostrovskiy. “Avetis” festival orchestra will invite conductors and musicians of Armenian descend to its each concert.
“VIVA Callas” concert series, for example, will be led by very famous pianist and cundocutor of Armenian descend Vag Papyan who is invited from Israel. “VIVA Callas” concert series is going to take place in the summer of this year also at Carnegie Hall situated in New York and also in Paris at the Salle Gaveau.
Varduhi Khachatryan was inspired by Maria Callas’ talent since an early age, when she heard Callas’ works in the collections of her father, who is a national artist of the Republic of Armenia, opera singer Albert Khachatryan.
“The idea of “VIVA Callas” was born a few years ago”, the singer is detailing “When I was the “Maria Callas GRAND PRIX” winner I was invited to Athens to sing during the concert devoted to Maria Callas, the some more invitations were folloed , and then on Callas’ 90 anniversary I made a tour to many European countries: Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Geneva and of course in Yerevan, where it had a big success and I was asked to repeat concert by audience. After all these the idea of “VIVA Callas” concert series was born. This project was a link for tight relationship and cooperation between “Avetis” and “Art’s Gallery” cultural association, founded by Mariam Shahinyan”.
Opera singer, mezzo-soprano Varduhi Khachatryan was born in Yerevan, she graduated from music school named after R. Melikyan, then from Yerevan State Conservatory, and later she got her academic degree in Conservatory, she was a student of professor, opera singer Gohar Gasparyan.
