Armenian architecture destroyed in New Jugha due to expensive land lots – US architect
The Armenian architectural heritage in New Jugha is being destroyed today due to the the land lots’ prices which are eight times more expensive for historical constructions, says a US architect.
Speaking at the scientific conference "New Jugha" (organized by Armenia’s Ministry of Urban Development), Marco Brambilla said that despite the Iranian government’s attention to the Armenian cultural heritage, the Armenians in the country prefer that the constructions inherited from their ancestors be leveled as soon as possible.
Noting that many old Armenian houses’ general plans, projects and photos are preserved in the Armenian archives today, the architect highlighted the need of collecting the available records for further studies. He also proposed collaborative efforts between Armenian and Iranian institutions for developing a joint plan towards saving the historical designs.
