Prince's $10million estate to turn into museum (photos)

Prince's $10million Paisley Park estate will be opened to the public as a museum, the Daily Mail reports, citing his brother-in-law.

The extravagant mansion, which is situated just off a main road in Minnesota, was home to the star for nearly three decades before he was found unresponsive in an elevator on the site last Thursday.

Maurice Phillips, who is the husband of Prince's sister Tyka, revealed the family made the decision because although the singer was private he would have wanted his music to be remembered.

The 52-year-old told the Sun: “We will turn Paisley Park into a museum in Prince’s memory. It would be for the fans. He was all about the fans - this would remember his music, which is his legacy.'

The family may be hoping the property will rival Elvis' Graceland, which opened in Memphis five years after the superstar's death in 1982. It currently attracts more than 600,000 visitors a year.

It comes after a virtual tour of the estate, released a couple of years ago to fans, showed the extravagant complex in all its glory.

Viewers were able to catch a glimpse of the musician's 10-man wardrobe, where dozens of his colourful outfits were likely to have been hung, as well as dance rehearsal room.

A huge recording studio, which was designed by architect Bret Theony, was the home to many of the star's musical instruments, with guitars propped against purple and pink chairs and a keyboard in the middle of the room.

Elsewhere in the house, a room seemingly dedicated to relaxation - with large sofas next to an acoustic performance area - was lit by purple lights.

The property also included an extravagant 'lobby' area, where the walls were painted like the sky and large balconies joined the upper floors.

Meanwhile, a glass pyramid on top of the complex, which looks more like a factory than a house, glowed purple when the star was in.

The pictures emerged last week as those who have worked with Prince revealed the mansion also has an underground vault full of unreleased material that can keep his legacy alive for more than a century.

Fans of the star have been speculating for years about a huge maximum-security room containing up to 2,000 hidden tracks.

But his sound engineer Susan Rogers last week confirmed the rumours are true - adding that the vault contains an unreleased song called Moonbeam Levels.

Fans across the globe have spoken out about their devastation at the star's death, with some even claiming he knew it was going to happen.

Social media users claimed lyrics from his 1986 song Sometimes It Snows In April suggested he knew he was going to pass away.

It also emerged that at his last public appearance in Minnesota - less than a week before he was found dead - Prince told fans not to 'waste their prayers' on him.

He made the comment after representatives claimed he had suffered from a severe bout of flu earlier in the month.

But reports alleged that the star had actually needed a 'save shot' in the weeks before his death - an injection usually given to those who have taken a drugs overdose.
