Alden Ehrenreich to play young Han Solo in upcoming ‘Star Wars’
Lucasfilm has a good feeling about this casting.
Actor Alden Ehrenreich has landed the coveted role of young Han Solo in a stand-alone “Star Wars” film, Deadline reported Thursday — a day after Star Wars day, May 4, BNY Daily News reported.
The relatively unknown 26-year-old inherits the role from Harrison Ford, who was catapulted to stardom when he originated the space smuggler role in 1977.
The newcomer beat out Taron Egerton and Jack Reynor during a top-secret audition process, according to Deadline.
The untitled spinoff is being directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and is slated to hit theaters May 25, 2018. Plot details have been kept under wraps but it is expected to focus on Solo’s adventures before he joined the Rebel Alliance.
Ehrenreich is best known for his work in the Coen brothers’ “Hail, Caesar!”
