Lady Gaga takes joyride before Indianapolis 500
Pop superstar Lady Gaga revved up some excitement at the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday when she hit the track with racing legend Mario Andretti.
The "Born This Way" singer sat in the passenger side of Andretti's two-seat vehicle as they toured around the course along with the Indy 500's 33 racers as part of a pre-race ritual.
The star-powered duo made three loops around the track as the race's official pace car followed behind. The ceremonial drive took place shortly before the 100th running of the famed event.
Gaga's appearance at Indianapolis Motor Speedway surprised the audience, as she was only announced as a fill-in for the honorary gig on Sunday morning. She replaced country crooner Keith Urban, who was forced to pull out after suffering a back injury.
Shortly before they hit the road, Andretti joked it would be tough to focus with the Grammy winner in the car.
"She's going to distract me quite a bit, actually," Andretti quipped to the Indianapolis Star. "I hope I can just look ahead while I'm driving."
Gaga, meanwhile, seemed to enjoy her time on the iconic racetrack, as she shared a slew of photos from the morning on her Instagram page.
"Gentlemen start your engines!" she captioned one photo. "I'm one of the family today."
Andretti, 76, won his lone Indy 500 in 1969.
