Armenian fiction writer Hrachya Matevosyan dies

Prominent Armenian writer and publicist Hrachya Matevosyan has passed away at age 79, Armenpress reports, citing the Writers’ Union of Armenia.


Born in Ahnidzor (Lori region) in 1937, Matevosyan started his career in the publishing industry as a lynotypist in different publishing houses of Yerevan.  In 1966 he graduated from the Yerevan State University’s Department of Journalism.  


For many years, Matevosyan worked for the print media, collaborating with the literary publications Avanguard, Voice of Motherland, and Armenia. Many of his articles, stories and interviews have been published in the local press.


Hrachya Matevosyan was the brother of Hrant Matevosyan, an outstanding Armenian fiction author and screen writer and the president of the Writers’ House from 1996 to 2000.
