German cinema interested in participating in Golden Apricot festival - ambassador
The Golden Apricot International Film Festival 2016 will feature new French, British and German films.
Narek Tovmasyan, British Council Programmes Manager, told reporters on Wednesday that Shakespeare’s works will be screened.
This year marks the 400th anniversary of great playwright's death.
German Ambassador to Armenia Matthias Kiesler is happy not only about the number of German films being screened at the festival, but also about changes in international cultural life.
Last year’s golden Apricot festival overlapped the first day of his visit to Armenia. Last year Mr Kiesler was convinced of high professional skills of the Golden Apricot festival organizers and of the high-quality and interesting films screened at the festival. Given the Golden Apricot festival’s public fame, German cinema’s interest in taking part in it is clear.
Mr Kiesler said that they have always screened presentable movies for the festival and sent presentable guests to participate in the annual event.
He said the past 13 years saw 200 films, including movies of joint production, screened.
The ambassador spoke particularly of the film “24 Weeks” which he said had been earlier presented in Berlin Allee. In his words, the movie will be screened in Germany as early as this autumn.
“We are happy to know that Golden Apricot is one of the world’s major cultural events that makes Armenia’s name more prominent around the globe.”
Nicolas Fai, Charge d’Affaires at the French Embassy in Armenia, said it is a pleasure for them to attend the festival which unites movie fans in the summer season inviting them to also enjoy the Armenian apricot.
He added that the program includes also interesting French movies. “The encouragement of cultural diversity is among the key principles of our diplomacy. This year too, the Armenian-French cooperation was marked by a high-quality French program choice,” he noted.
